Abstract

In the midst of the world's socio-political and economic uncertainties, cartoonists and theatre visualizers have relished in actionable statements that crave the need for order and unity. Creatively, cartoon and theatre are seen as catalysts for expressive communications. Cartoon and theatre crafts are orchestrated as experimental arts, where Symbolic Interaction Theory supports dramatic objectivity. From available literature, printed cartoons have enshrined characteristics of social mobilization. In this study, survey research design was adopted in the description of cartoon stories, Pearson Product Moment Correlation was used to analyze the relationship between visual symbolism in cartoon and theatre crafts. The resulting correlation coefficient was .959 and significant at .05 level (P .05). Result revealed that there is a strong relationship between cartoon and theatre stagecraft managements. Relevant recommendations are made to place printed cartoon as an epitome of 'live theatre' in projecting its stagecraft for more expressive and purposeful participation and emancipation of the Nigerian masses.
