Abstract

Corruption in journalism covers a diversity of ethical misconduct both by individual journalists and the news organizations they work for. In itself, it is a phenomenon that describes several forms of ethical misconduct such as: soliciting or accepting money, gifts, “freebies,” free tours, favours, and privileges; giving money to sources for information (check- book journalism); falsifying or distorting or withholding information in favour of someone in ways that prioritize political or ethnic or kinship interest and any other personal interest over public interest. However, the most rampart form of corruption in the developing world is bribery and conflict of interests. This paper, therefore, discusses the ethical issues of corruption in Journalism practice in Nigeria, highlighting the scourge of bribery and conflict of interest and its implications on news reporting.
